Call for Papers – Abstract Submission

The Scientific Program Committee for the 12th Annual International Congress of Behavioural Medicine (ICBM) invites you to submit abstracts for poster presentations for the Congress. It is not necessary to be a member of a member national society of the International Society of Behavioural Medicine to submit an abstract. Abstracts will be reviewed by members of the Scientific Program Committee. All accepted abstracts will be published in a program and abstract book. Please note: all presenters must be registered for the Congress.

Abstract submissions (except Tutorial Workshops) must be made via the On-line submission website. Abstracts sent by post, fax or e-mail will not be considered.

Presentation Format

Rapid Communication Posters (Late Breaking Research Posters)

Submission period

Submission opens on 26 January 2012 and the deadline is 1 May, 2012.

Abstract General Requirements

Abstracts submitted for presentation must be based on empirical research and report actual (not promised) results along with relevant statistics and significance values.

Abstract Format Requirements

1) Abstract length: Abstracts for all submissions are limited to 2300 characters including spaces. The title, authors and institutions are excluded.
2) Special characters and formatting: If you copy and paste the title and/or body from your word processor, special characters or formatting may not transfer. You will have to replace special characters and/or insert formatting tags using the character palette in the abstract submission website.
3) Title: The Abstract title should be entered in mixed case. PLEASE DO NOT enter the title in all capital letters.
4) Authors: Please enter all submitting authors in the order they should appear in the heading of the abstract. Presenting and corresponding authors should be chosen and marked.
5) Institutions: Enter institutional affiliations of all submitting authors. Department is an optional field.
6) Keywords: You are required to select and submit at least two key words from a predefined list.
7) Corresponding author: Please identify the corresponding author for the abstract. This individual will receive all communications regarding the abstract status from the organizer. Corresponding author data should be given when creating new account at On-line abstract submission website.
8) Conflict of interest: Once you submit your abstract online, you will be asked if you have any conflict of interest to disclose.
9) Proof: Carefully check the proof of your abstract. Make sure all special characters and formatting is displaying properly in your proof. If you find errors, return to the abstract title, authors or body, and make your corrections.

Prior Publication Policy

Papers that have been published or presented elsewhere prior to the time of presentation at the 12th International Congress of Behavioural Medicine may not be submitted for consideration by ICBM.

Corresponding authors are asked to select one track from the list that best describes their abstract submission.

Closes: 11:59 pm CET, 1 May 2012

All abstracts submitted will be processed to the Congress Secretariat (Congressline Ltd.) Upon receipt of your submission, the system will issue an e-mail confirmation to the submitting author automatically. Authors can expect to receive the e-mail confirmation of their submission within 48 hours (or two business days) after submission.

All abstract submissions will be peer reviewed and may be submitted as an oral presentation only, a poster presentation only or an oral or poster presentation. All accepted abstracts will be published in the Meeting Supplement issue of the International Journal of Behavioural Medicine, the official journal of ISBM. The supplement will serve as the official abstract publication for the 12th International Congress of Behavioural Medicine.

Important Participation Guidelines – Please Review

  • Abstracts may be submitted as “Poster Only"
  • Each abstract should represent complete and original results.
  • Abstracts submitted for presentation must be based on empirical research and report actual (not promised) results along with relevant statistics and significance values.
  • Papers that have been published or presented elsewhere prior to the time of presentation at the 12th International Congress of Behavioural Medicine may not be submitted for consideration by ICBM.
  • Presenters of accepted abstracts must pre-register for the Congress by the early-bird deadline of May 1st, 2012.
  • Each presenting author is responsible for his/her registration fee(s) as well as travel and housing costs.
  • Presenters who are unable to attend the ICBM should arrange for another individual to present the paper (oral)/poster in question.
  • If changes to your presentation are necessary, you can make them in the on-line abstracts submission website during the submission’s period. (You can do this by entering into the system with your username and password and choosing the modify button) (If any changes are necessary after the on-line abstract submission period please notify the Congress Secretariat Ms. Melinda Papp-Vid at pappvid@congressline.hu).
  • Abstract presenters who withdraw a presentation may be denied the right to submit an abstract for the 13th ICBM. The only exceptions to this policy are 1) absence due to weather related issues that hinder a presenter’s travel to the meeting, 2) absence due to work related emergency, or 3) absence related to personal injury or family health emergency. Please Note: Miscalculation of travel costs by the presenter does not qualify as an acceptable reason to withdraw one’s abstract. In the event this occurs, no refunds will be given.
  • All abstract submissions must be in English official language of the 12th ICBM. All presentations based on accepted abstract submissions must be made in English.

Abstract Acceptance Notification

All submitted abstracts will be notified of acceptance or regrets via e-mail by 21 May, 2012. If you DO NOT receive an e-mail notification regarding your abstract submission by 21 May, 2012, please send an e-mail to Ms. Melinda Papp-Vid at pappvid@congressline.hu.
